Classic lasagna - A tried and true recipe for the ultimate comfort food.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 9 lasagna noodles
- 15 oz. ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Chopped parsley, for garnish (optional)
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with the onion and garlic. Drain off any excess fat.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, sugar, salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes.
- Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions and drain.
- In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
- Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Layer 3 of the cooked noodles on top of the sauce.
- Spread a third of the ricotta mixture on top of the noodles, then a third of the mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat the layers of noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese 2 more times.
- Cover the top of the lasagna with the remaining meat sauce.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown and bubbly.
- Let the lasagna cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with chopped parsley
