Classic lasagna - A tried and true recipe for the ultimate comfort food.


 Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 15 oz. ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Chopped parsley, for garnish (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with the onion and garlic. Drain off any excess fat.
  3. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, sugar, salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes.
  4. Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions and drain.
  5. In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
  6. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  7. Layer 3 of the cooked noodles on top of the sauce.
  8. Spread a third of the ricotta mixture on top of the noodles, then a third of the mozzarella cheese.
  9. Repeat the layers of noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese 2 more times.
  10. Cover the top of the lasagna with the remaining meat sauce.
  11. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  12. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown and bubbly.
  13. Let the lasagna cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with chopped parsley
